Steiner was born during the Taft administration. He was 102 years of age on May 1 this year. He sent a card to mark his birthday. <a href=\"https:\/\/auslander.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/SCAN0062.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1593\" src=\"https:\/\/auslander.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/SCAN0062-435x300.jpg\" alt=\"SCAN0062\" width=\"435\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>His son \u2014 John F. Steiner \u2014 and I attended graduate school at the University of Arizona during the Johnson and Nixon administrations. Father and Son \u2014 both have had rich and productive academic careers \u2014 have been writing <em>the<\/em> definitive college textbook on ethics and business, <em>Business, Government and Society: A Managerial Perspective<\/em>. I say \u201chave been\u201d because the 13<sup>th<\/sup> edition was\u00a0 published two years ago.<a href=\"https:\/\/auslander.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/DSCF11371.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-1599\" src=\"https:\/\/auslander.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/DSCF11371-185x150.jpg\" alt=\"DSCF1137\" width=\"185\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is the most interesting textbook I have ever read. Unlike most, it is replete with fascinating stories well told. The writing is first-rate \u2014 also a rare thing among the genre. One of my favorite gems is a chapter on Henry David Thoreau. The Steiners say of Thoreau that besides being indolent, he &#8220;became a beacon for the few in each succeeding generation who rejected materialism. But its light has a limited radius. Tourists now drawn to his Walden Pond homesite support three shopping malls within a mile as the crow flies.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>John says his father has \u201ccertain feelings\u201d about being 102. All things considered, I think that\u2019s understandable.
